Collision & Auto Body Repair Process

Repairing your vehicle after an accident or collision can be a time-consuming and complicated process.  We will keep you informed each step of the way in delivering your vehicle back to you in pre accident condition. Here is a simple overview of our steps:

Estimation
Before any work is done on your vehicle, the Brown's Team will complete a detailed damage assessment and examine the critical safety systems of your vehicle. After everything has been inspected, we explain the proposed repair and provide you with a written estimate detailing the costs to repair. We will also answer any questions now and throughout the process.

Insurance Review
Once the estimate is completed, the insurance company will review the estimate. Brown's Fairfax Auto Body works with all insurance companies.  As needed, we negotiate on your behalf to ensure the final repairs meet your standards. Upon approval by the insurance company, the vehicle begins the actual repair process.

Disassembly
We begin the repair by washing your vehicle. It helps us see hidden problems and solve them as we do our work. Our repair team begins the disassembly of the area to be repaired. It is here that hidden damage is often found, and inner structure repairs are determined. Many times this will require scheduling insurance re-inspection and ordering additional parts.

Structural Repair
Repairs to the structure of the vehicle, either unibody or frame, are first. Each item is returned to factory specifications using state of the art measuring systems. This computer aided system insures an accurate repair.

Body Repair
Our skilled craftsmen repair or replace exterior body panels to return the vehicle to pre-crash condition. Proper installation and alignment of each panel is crucial prior to final paint and finish.

Paint Preparation
Proper preparation for the final paint is critical to ensure a perfectly clean and smooth surface. Our paint team spends the time to properly prepare surfaces for the best possible paint adhesion

Painting
Painting is a critical step in the refinishing process of every vehicle. All panels are prepared for paint, then primed and sealed to assure good adhesion when the final top color and clear coats of paint are applied.

Reassembly
Final moldings and detail pieces are put back on the vehicle in the reassembly area. All the vehicle's systems are checked during this process. The vehicle is almost complete and ready for delivery when it is in this stage.

Inspection
During the repair process the vehicle accumulates dust from the repairs. It will be cleaned. It will also be road tested to ensure that everything is working properly. A final inspection will assure that the vehicle is restored to it's pre-accident condition.

Delivery
Delivery is the last step in the repair process. When the customer arrives to pick up the vehicle, the bill is explained and the final paper work is completed. The customer drives away in the vehicle that has been restored to it's pre accident condition.

  • Exchange information with the other driver(s). Be sure to write down their name, address, phone number, vehicle license plate number and insurance information

Call Brown's Fairfax Collision or leave a message on the After Hours Collision Hotline with your contact information. Simply leave us the message and we will make the arrangements.)

Know that you only need one estimate from the shop of your choice. If the insurance carrier wants more than one estimate they can hire someone to inspect the vehicle. It is not your responsibility to drive all over town providing estimates for their benefit.

Some Insurance carriers will coerce you to repair your vehicle at one of their shops. Make certain the Insurance carrier understands you want to choose your shop. Have your vehicle repaired at Brown's Fairfax Auto Body the shop of your choice. Don't let an insurance company convince you to take your vehicle to a lesser shop.

The Brown's Fairfax Collision team will take it from there. We work with all insurance companies and guarantee our workmanship for as long as you own your vehicle.
